A Playroom Transformation Plan

Welcome to Abby Manchesky Interiors!
Inspiration via Studio McGee

A playroom can either be a luxury or a headache, depending on how tidy your children are (are children tidy?) and where it is located in your home. My clients' playroom is the first room you see when you walk in the door. It was built as a dining room but they were using it as a play room.

They knew it was time to feature their
beautiful blue piano, and contacted me to help.

Here are the 'before' photos she sent.

GOALS:
-Clear the room of everything but the piano. Move toy storage to basement.
-Move piano to be the focal point.
-Add soft seating for a relaxing space.
-Include smart storage for stray toys and blankets.
-Finish the room with styling and art.
-Lighting!

I knew I wanted the four chair layout, and pulled some inspiration.

Here's the plan!

In real life there will be four chairs, but you get the idea.

The first order of business was to get rid of the boob light and replace it with a beautiful chandelier.

I kept it free of glass, and open feeling so that it would be easy to clean.

The leather ottoman is kid friendly and opens for toy storage.

The tall baskets underneath the clear console also add smart, concealed storage.

The rug is actually an indoor/outdoor rug. I LOVE the colors. They ground the very light and neutral room and hide any dog hair. We also added drapes for softness and finishing off the space.

The pillows are a palest aqua circle cut velvet, which is a nice contrast against the
 linen slip-covered chairs.

I gave them a fun option for the future--adding faux olive trees to flank the piano. It adds another texture and organic vibe to the space. The art was chosen for its water-y and light qualities.

There you have it! They asked for a relaxing, fresh, space that features their piano and it's coming together very quickly. I hope to share 'after' photos with you by the end of the month!

Do you have a piano in your home? How do you style it?
