I am so glad you're here.
It's Christmas morning in blog land! Today marks the first week of the One Room Challenge, started by Linda of Calling it Home. Every Wednesday morning the invited group of us have six weeks to complete a room and share the entire process with you. This is no small task. Last Spring was my first time participating and I am thrilled to take part again! I dare say I never would have finished off our main bathroom without this challenge.
Thank you, Linda!
Although I would LOVE to be doing a certain, unmentioned room in my own home for the ORC, one of my favorite clients has graciously agreed to allow us into their home instead. You may recognize their dining and living room in the photos below. I affectionately refer to this home as the #swankycolonialproject. If you follow me on Instagram, this is not new to you. (Instagram is my favorite...we should be friends.) And now we are starting on the upstairs of their home. Because it's fair to say that it doesn't match the main floor...and they are ready.
As you can see below, they are neutral lovers, but not afraid to go bold with me.
This couple is married with children. They're both attorneys in town, and they are ready to make their whole house reflect their style.
I'm designing their Master Bedroom for the One Room Challenge!
Very excited. The ORC is an intense process, and since we have already worked together, trust each other, and have even become friends, this is a special project to me. I know how vulnerable my clients are when I put their unfinished homes on the world wide web. But man oh man, when we're done, it's so fun. I think they call that a designer's high. AmIRight?!?
Want to know a secret? Not only is there the challenge of the time limit, but challenge of going all neutral. I love to use color. But this bedroom is going to be a mix of black, white, beige, and gray. So I'll be looking for other ways to make the room gorgeous besides color.
Let's get right to it! This is a judge free zone...just take a look at the before photos of my bathroom from the last ORC. I am so thankful she took these shots before she ever knew we would do this, because it will make our after shots much more dramatic. You know how it is.
-King upholstered bed ordered
-update dressers. New hardware?
-new carpet is already installed. woo hoo!
-New tv stand that better fits the space and their style
I asked my clients a couple questions to share with you. I'm hoping to make this a regular part of my ORC posts, because it's all about the process.
And don't you want to know what the clients are thinking as we go? I do. ;-)
Q: How would you like your bedroom to feel and/or look?
A: We'd like a room that feels relaxing, calm, and comfortable. Elegant/Classy...not sure the word I'm looking for. Sophisticated. (him)
Q:Any must haves? Anything making you nervous?
A: Must haves- pillows. I love lots of pillow! I have always had a bedroom where all the furniture matched exactly. So I am a little nervous how it will look with different pieces, but nervous in a good way! Maybe a little nervous about the crane fabric- but I love the cranes in the dining room, so I know I'll love them in my bedroom! (her)
Can you relate to my clients? I'm sure it's so hard to pass the planning over to a designer. But I always say it's not about me. It's about helping my clients live in the best version of their own style. I think I can make that happen in this bedroom.
(brushes hands together and gets to work)
My clients had already ordered this beautiful, grown-up bed before we got started. I adore it. In fact, it's being delivered today!
And because I love you, here is a glance, truly just a glance at where the bedroom is headed for the moment. Normally I wouldn't share my plans for the room with my clients until I had the whole scheme put together, but the ORC is special. So I'll share as I go!
My personal goals for this room are to make it special, rich, and unique to my clients.
All in six weeks.
I'm sure it will be no problem.
Please come back and check on our progress! ;-)
Linda has really outdone herself with the group this season.
Two words: heavy hitters.
I'm not nervous at all. (cough)
If you would like to participate, anyone can join in as a Linking Participant on Thursdays.
Click here for details on how to link up. But plan on visiting our group every Wednesday!
You will want to click through to every blog to see what they're working on, because dang, there are talented ladies here. And a special shout out to Jana Bek who is a fellow Michigan designer. So happy that our state is represented well! Best wishes to all of us. xx
