Treat Yourself: My Top 5 Beauty Buys for Spring

Hi friends!  Happy Valentine's Day.

True confession?  I love makeup.

Always have.  It's in my blood.  My Grandma Dolly owned a beauty salon out of her basement and she never left the house without lipstick.  My Tarnosky side of the family always puts in the effort.  ;-)  So if makeup isn't your thing, come back a different day. But I've recently discovered a few key products that I can't stop talking about and I wanted to share them here. Just like the rooms I design, there are a few high end pieces worked in with the deals.
I wouldn't want you missing out on something great!

Let's start with the actual emerald cosmetic bag itself.  I had been eyeing it at Target but thought it was too big.  I was wrong.  It not only has pockets all around the perimeter of the inside, but the long outside pocket is the perfect length for your brushes.  Bonus?  It's on clearance online.  Love the color, the wipeable fabric, and how organized it keeps all my products.

Next up would be a splurge.  It's the Naked 2 Eyeshadow Palette.  I had tried a less expensive Target brand, and my eyeshadow would either disappear or I'd have a crease of color by the end of the day.  I kid you not, this eyeshadow rescued me for the dreaded crease.  I've even been a total slacker and not removed my eye makeup before bed, and when I woke my shadow still looked great.  Yes, it's an investment but if you wear eye makeup daily I believe it's totally worth it.  I will also say that the brush that comes with this kit is so luxurious.  A total step up for me.  If you're overwhelmed by so many shadows, this palette is so popular that there are a million tutorials on Pinterest and Youtube.

Similar to my problem of the eyeshadow crease, was my eyeliner always smudging under my eyes.  Clearly, my eyes are slick?  Who knows.  But I have found a true winner and solution.  The Stila All Day Waterproof Liquid Liner.  Not only did I wear this all day with no smudges, but I slept in it, then shoveled our driveway during a snow storm!  Still no smudges.  This eyeliner is the real deal.  Some day I'll try a different color for fun.

I'm always trying new lipsticks and glosses.  But I think a gloss is just a bit more fresh looking--you just need to reapply more often.  These Lipglaze by Stila are my current favorite.  You can buy any three glosses for $15.  These are my three.  I always use the Vanilla, and then during the day, for a more neutral look I use the Grapefruit.  At night, for a bit more romance, I layer the Sangria over the Vanilla.  These look great on their own but I love to layer them.  Just keep glossing, my friends.  It keeps you young. Ha!

My favorite product for the dark circles and highlighting around the face is this drugstore/Target buy.  The Revlon Photo Ready Eye Primer + Brightener.  I use it under eyes, above eyebrows, on the top line of my nose, in between my eyebrows and on my chin.  Not much else to say.  I just like it. :-)

My favorite mascara is also a drug store beauty buy.  The brush is a little tricky to get used to, but I like to layer and layer the coats with this mascara, and it doesn't get clumpy.  It really does make my lashes crazy long if I keep adding layers.

There you have it!  My top five beauty buys for Spring.
What am I missing?  Have you tried any of these beauty products yourself?

  1. Hi Abby, I'm no makeup guru but have found that when I apply eyelid primer ( I like "Put a Lid on It" by the Balm. Find at Kohls as Ulta doesn't carry it)it stays on better. Love the Naked Two palette as well. Pricey but I'm going on year two with it. Love your blog btw.

  4. Love Kate too!!! I've been on a makeup update as of recent, so I've spotted some of your suggestions before. My main thing lately is learning how to contour better...I think that makes a HUGE difference! Will have to add that naked palette to my wish list.

    1. Kristel-
I love contouring as well! Such a difference. I use a makeup primer/bronzed from VS but they don't make it anymore so I didn't talk about it here. Love it, though!

Great to hear from you! Yes, my mom had me try that mascara. I think benefit makes that one. I still didn't like it as much as the Maybeline.
