Homes on the water are my sweet spot. I grew-up on Lake Huron, and my love of the Michigan lake shore influences all of my designs. My Lansing Lake House clients live on the east side of the state, but they're lucky enough to have a huge lake house on an inland lake near Lansing. I shared most of the room designs last June, you can see them here, but then my clients took a little break from the house while some key decisions were made like flooring and cabinets.
I didn't want to finish their dining room until the kitchen plans were complete, so here we are. These two photos were my inspiration. Casual. Welcoming. Colorful.

This small dining room above is the most like my clients. I love the large photograph as art, but I needed something more colorful. This is a summer home, after all! Everything else in the dining room will be very neutral, so this abstract painting would really shine. Plus, I just think it's a happy painting.

They picked the table themselves, and thankfully I love it. It's rustic enough but still large for entertaining. I pulled in some classic chairs in a modern color, fog, that will be durable enough for sand and wet bathing suits. This linen shade on the light will compliment the bronze chandelier that's going in the living room. When you're working with an open concept you really need all your lighting to work together.
What do think? Is this a dining room you'd like to entertain with during the summer months? If you would like to work together creating a home you absolutely love,
