color tells your story

The core of my design inspiration comes from growing up on the beach of Lake Huron.  If you have been reading for any length of time, you've probably noticed
my affinity for blues and greens and anything beach-y.

We went to my dad's house last week: road trip.

So obviously I did a lot of lounging!

Oh wait, I have two kids, so I didn't do much lounging...but it was still fun.

This is where I grew-up.  Literally my front yard.  I'm sure I didn't appreciate it to the fullest when I was young.  But I wanted to share my roots to give perspective on my work.  Granted, I always cater to what my client wants, but in my own home--these colors rule.

Check out that blue/grey/white sky and my darling boys.

Cocktail, anyone?  You know I'm crazy for the color green.

You can see all the way to the bottom of Lake Huron--
even in the deep.
This is very far from shore.

My oldest got a haircut.  My home town is vintage in many ways.

I'm drawn to these colors not because they are on trend in the moment, but because they are personal to me.

What colors tell your story?  Do you find them in your own home?

  1. I'm right there with ya, Abby. These colors make my heart sing! Giggled at your lady of leisure picture...I thought, "Wow, how'd she manage that?" Then I read the next line!

  2. I think we lake girls are drawn to the same colors! I could have written your post! Love the blues, greens & yellows. I, too, grew up on a crystal clear lake (in a quaint little town), did not appreciate it until adulthood and love bringing the outside in. Looks like a fun time!

  4. I love this post, Abby. I've always been drawn to the color green - whether its apple, kelly, olive, moss or mint! Not sure where it comes from - either my love of nature and gardening ... or it could be money! : )

  5. I'm a fall girl and I'm already looking forward to fall - pumpkins, the leaves changing to beautiful warm colors, red wine. But I also love to look up at the sky on a clear blue day, which is probably the reason I've been incorporating a little bit more blue into our home. It looks like you had a great getaway with your family!

  6. Love those colors too. I spent all childhood summers on a lake, wonder if that's partly how they seeped in for me too? Never really thought about it before now!

  7. That is such a cool way to think about it...I'm from a super desert area, but I do find that I like to incorporate sage, beige, and blue into stuff...Looks like you all had a great trip!

  8. It's so funny looking at these photos - I grew up on the shores of Lake Erie on the Canadian side. I am also always drawn to the watery blues and greens. There's something about those colours that make me feel safe and calm and I have always used them in my decorating!
On a side note, I've been creepin' around your blog for a while now and following along with your client projects and home projects. I'm really enjoying it. If you'd like, you can find me at:
