The green door saga continues...
If you have been following the cottage project, you know I recommended she paint her door this shade of green. We painted a large chunk of the door just as a test. There are so many shadows and changes of light during the day that a paint sample just isn't enough.
Who knew that everyone under the sun would have such strong opinions on this door?!!
A neighbor actually told the contractor that it looked like something you'd see in the ghetto.
Um...
Have you been to the ghetto?
Yeah, there are always fresh colors like green and blue on exteriors. ;-)
I am so proud of my cottage client. She told me yesterday that she decided to keep the green color.
She thinks it's "fresh" and "happy" and doesn't care what anyone else thinks. I couldn't agree more!
What do you think? Ghetto or fabulous? Hehe.
Abby, you have impeccable taste; you can't please everybody! I can't believe someone said it looks ghetto. I love a bright, cheerful welcoming front door. Good work!
ReplyDeleteI love the green door, in fact, I think I am going to paint my door the same color!
ReplyDeleteI think it looks preppy! i like it! some huge white hydrangeas would look so pretty along with it!

Wow, that "ghetto" comment is leaving me speechless! Good for both of you for standing by your convictions!
ReplyDeleteSeriously? Everyone knows the ghetto is blue + green, like a sweet lakeside cottage. Please!
ReplyDeleteI think it's ghetto fabulous! Who says something in the ghetto can't be fabulous?! I love those 2 colors together - I actually almost bought a bracelet yesterday with those same 2 colors (:
ReplyDeleteI love it! That is my favorite color combo and I love the unexpected pop of color it brings to the house! Good choice! ~gina
ReplyDeleteIt is so beyond fabulous and has inspired me to paint my front door a new color (currently red). Maybe you could do a post on choosing door colors for different exteriors...mine is red brick (hint) ;)
ReplyDeleteLaughing about that one! The green door is utterly fabulous, so yay for your client's bravery and sense of style!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely fabulous!
ReplyDeleteAbby it is fantastically fun and fresh! Adore the green door!

What a hilarious comment! Obviously that person hasn't been to the ghetto. I think the green is fabulous!!
ReplyDeleteThen I want to live in that ghetto.
ReplyDeleteFabulous! It is so fresh and fun. I can't imagine anyone thinking such a sweet cottage should be in the ghetto.
ReplyDeleteWhat ghetto was the neighbor visiting? The green door is stunning! I love the mix of green & blue! Y'all have done a great job!
ReplyDeleteI want to move to that ghetto! I think the colors are fun. Why is monochromatic so popular. We painted our house green with a yellow door. When people asked the colors, you should have seen the horror. Everyone and their children (literally) said keep the door black. Gag! Hooray for risks! Makes life more fun!

Good...she should listen to you....after all she hired you right:)
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the door color! I think it is fabulous! I have been to the ghetto and haven't seen anything like that! HA!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe her neighbor said that! Crazy! I happen to think it looks amazing and am glad she's keeping it. I bet the neighbors will come around, and in no time, you'll see a bunch of green doors! Yay to being fun and taking design risks!
ReplyDeleteMethinks they don't know what ghetto really means ;)
ReplyDeleteAnd no, it looks lively and happy, not ghetto.
I love the colors together on this house! It's super cute!
ReplyDeleteBut when we were house hunting most of the more "loud" colored homes were in ghetto areas around the city. But they were super gross and tacky.
Oh geez...people say the craziest things. I can't see how green would make someone think ghetto but who knows - I think the green is fabulous. I'd be proud to be homeowner with the green door - we're the ones with the yellow door and I love it.
ReplyDeleteWow. This got the comments going! I agree with everybody else. It looks great. I guess my vision of the ghetto isn't quite as nice as the neighbor's!!
ReplyDeleteFrom past experiences, I've learned that neighbors who make comments like that are nothing more than jealous that they aren't having a do-over at their place. Forget about it. I think it's sheer genius and the neighbor is GREEN with envy.
ReplyDeleteWho knew the ghetto was so stylish? I love it. :)
ReplyDeleteI love the green. I have been watching alot of British mysteries lately and see alot of this green. Inspector Lewis to be exact. Several cottage doors and shutters this color. And also the entry to the college. It is very European. I love it so much I am going to paint my outdoor furniture this color. Thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteGhetto Fabulous! It looks great. Happy with lots of personality but still chic.
ReplyDeletePreppy is a great descriptor! Frankly I love blue-greens, and blue, and green, and this combo is smashing. If you're going to paint it, the typical red door would not be good with this house, though I bet an interestingly acid/greened yellow would work.
