blue sofa & grey walls

Blue and grey.
Have you given them a chance?

All of these images can be found here.

I know many people love a "neutral" sofa like beige.  And there is a place for beige sofas.  But I am of the belief that brown is not a magical color that you never tire of.  There is nothing wrong with a deep blue sofa for the next ten years.  I'd recommend a blue, green or yellow sofa to anyone that was willing.  I can speak from experience after having a yellow sofa for over 10 years and still not being sick of it.

My Portland clients and I ended-up swaping out the original gorgeous green velvet sofa I sourced for another stylish option.  This deep blue leather chesterfield.  Love it.

Do you love?
Our yellow sofa is nearing its last moments and I'm tempted to order this same blue sofa.
Would you be willing to buy a couch that's a more edgy neutral?

  1. Love these blue sofas!
I'm such a "warm color" person, the rooms here that don't have orange or yellow thrown in feel a bit too cool for me, but love the rest.

I consider "tan" to be the safe neutral; we have a deeper chocolate brown sofa and I love that it feels just enough daring. I would have gone deep green, but already had a danish armchair with original upholstery in green!

  2. I am trying to pick out paint colors and I have neutral furniture. The light grey is really nice! And then you can pops of color here and there.

    This is great, thank you!

  3. My two favorite colors together so of course I love it and would do it in a heartbeat. I do have some blue mixed in with my gray already. Totally crushing on that blue chesterfield, seeing as I can't have it I think you so should buy it! Sigh, maybe one day I can find one used when it is out of style. ;)

  5. I love that chesterfield! First, that's my favorite style tied with an English arm tightback, but I also love the navy. The blue and gray rooms -- way too cold a combination for me. I need more warmth than that, but that's just a personal thing. The color combo is gorgeous, just not me.

  6. Just realized my comment could have sounded like I didn't like your plan! Funny, too, because I didn't see that room as blue and gray because of the warm yellow. That speaks my language :)

  13. I would if.....!! I'm trying to get to the blue-grey, but that combo will probably be out before I get to it! :) I'm going for a brownish grey sofa (saw it at Arhaus) so I can pull greys or browns and then splash with color. Right now I'm stuck with a sofa with red flowers (that I thought I'd keep for 20yrs) and it's preventing me from doing the blue-grey; so I'll stay more neutral so I can change colors.
Abby, how are you keeping a yellow (and I think I saw a white) sofa clean with your kids? That's another reason I'll stay darker.

  14. I love the new sofa that went into the Portland plan. Our master bedroom has a neutral beige wall and accents of navy - I don't think I'll ever tire of a dark blue with other neutrals.

  15. Such a sophisticated look! The blue pops like a sapphire against those gray tones - really sets it off.
