Mad Men style at home: my new light

Like most of America, last Sunday night my husband and I were watching the premiere of Mad Men.  I was, of course, soaking up all the fashion and decor from the show.  Especially in Don Draper's new apartment.  Suddenly, I gasped and said, "There's my light!"  See the pendant light hanging next to the chair?

Here is another shot of the pendant, with better lighting.

I had gone antiquing with my cousin a few weeks ago, and was crazy for this light.  Sadly, it was more than I wanted to spend.  But when I saw it on Mad Men I thought it was a sign.  Obviously! ;-)  Plus, my friend Carissa wrote about it on her blog. We e-mailed back and forth and she insisted I go back to check on the light.  So I headed to Blue Door Antiques, and wouldn't you know it was on sale!  (Que the tears of joy.)  I snatched it up right away.  I'm telling myself it's an early Mother's Day present.
Every mother dreams of a new fixture for Mother's Day. Right?

Here is how it looked in the store.
I actually think mine is prettier than the one on Mad Men, because of the blue glass bowl on the bottom.

Granted, this light is a bit more bohemian than the rest of our home.  But I have never seen a fixture like it and the colors are spectacular.  I can't wait to get it up!  What do you think?

If you live anywhere close to Grand Rapids, you must make plans to visit Blue Door Antiques.  Of course I snapped a few pics of my favorite pieces while I was there.  Here is some antique eye candy for you.

Please don't buy this-- I really want it for Holden's room. :-)

Yes, I wanted this chest.  Someone should buy it for their entryway or office.

Enjoy your weekend!  Keep your eyes peeled when you watch Mad Men for my new light.  If you missed my late post yesterday with a living room and dining room e-design, click here. xo

  1. Abby- You MUST check out 29th St. Antiques if you haven't already! They inventory changes all of the time because they have multiple vendors. Prices are usually much cheaper than smaller antique stores, but you just have to look harder.

  2. Sally, I actually visit 29th Street Antiques about once a week. It's dangerous for me because if I had money to spend, I could go crazy! Blue door also has multiple vendors. We're so lucky to live in a town that has great sources for vintage and antique pieces!

  4. What a fun find, Abby. I love having something in the room that throws it off-balance a bit. I bet that's exactly what your light will do!

  5. I had no idea you were also in Michigan! Thanks for the tip about the shop. I don't head to GR often because we seem to have some pretty good sources in my neck of the woods, but I'm putting that one on my list. Great find!
