Craig's list SCORE

I am officially addicted to Pinterest, because there is always something new to see.  Need new options for a TV Stand?  I did, because I was looking for a client.  Below are some examples of great ideas.  You can find them here.  But what sometimes happens is I get in idea for myself instead of a client...

Then...I saw this picture on Craig's List.  Not so awesome.

But I have is generic TV stand from Target and I would love to have something more substantial on this large wall that gives us extra toy storage.  (Design and kids should be able to live together happily!)  Plus, I am trying to get more white in the room and less brown.

So I put down the seats in the mini-van, drove to their house, and took her home!  Here she is in her full glory in our living room.  She's just waiting to be painted and have new hardware.

The best part was when our incredibly kind neighbor, and Jay, carried this beast into the house, I saw the back for the first time.
I almost started jumping up and down!  Drexel  is such a great company and if I was buying a new buffet from them today it would be pricey!  I am still in shock that I found this piece for $50.  Once I paint it and set it up, I know it will be beautiful.  Can you see my vision?  What do you think?

  1. I love that! I picked up a dresser this summer and spray painted it night tide, sort of a peacock blue color. Here is a link with the dresser which was used for our tv but is now behind the couch. http://www.thebloominghydrangea.com/2011/10/progress-de-oakifying-my-house.html
Can't wait to see what you do with it.

  4. SO cool! I too got a drexel piece from Craigslist for a tv stand ($50). It's campaign style and a little roughed up, but I kind of like it that way and decided not to do paint on it. Great find!

  12. My TV stand beats yours hands down - I'm desperate to find a new piece for our TV. And I love unexpected pieces used for a TV/media stand - I actually prefer pieces that aren't TV stands - just like the one that you scored. It's going to be great - can't wait to see it in your living room.

  14. If it were mine, I'd just clean it up and use it. I don't see how paint would be prettier than that gorgeous wood. What a bargain for such a high quality piece!

  15. Great find Abby! I just found a cabinet too - not for tv but storage for my office. My dilemma is whether to paint it white or not. The wood is very nice but the room is mostly white - check it out - I'd love your opinion. (in "week in review" post). Have a great week!

  18. I love today's approach to designing, so much less formal and, as a bonus, mixing and matching allows those just starting out the opportunity to put together a great look on a budget.

  19. Lucky You! What a great find. I've been looking at buffets to paint & use as a TV stand also. But I need something with glass doors. Or the cable box & DVD player won't pick up the signal from our remote.
Since yours doesn't have glass, how will you be addressing this issue? Can the recessed panels be cut out & replaced with glass?

  20. Oh, of course it will be amazing! And you just cannot go wrong with Drexel. I plan to paint a chinoiserie-esque console I got at a resale shop for my tv stand. I love how you will never walk into your neighbor's place and find your same piece of furniture!

  21. Oh that Drexel is such a steal...

And I too have been spending more and more time on Pinterest, though I still have to create an account.
