have I lost my mind completely?

Before we bought this house I said I wanted to be gutsy in my choices.  I wrote of wallpapered ceilings, and high gloss walls, but every ceiling in our 70's ranch is textured, and none of the walls are smooth/perfect enough to install lacquered walls.

All that being said, I'm doing my best to drastically change the house through lighting.
Our amazing electrician was here all last week made a million changes.  One my favorite changes is to our living room.  Or is it a "great room"?  This 29 1/2 x 19 room has 9 foot ceilings and we finally added canned lighting.  Phew!  Let there be light!  But our main living space is the
furniture floating in the middle of the room.

I think it might need this acrylic, 5-light, brass chandelier.
Obviously it wouldn't be against dark black walls--but can you picture it?
It looks quite similar to what I was thinking for the dining room, so I may change that one to this.
You can't see the rooms from one another so I think it's fine to mix metals.

Have I totally lost my mind?
Do you agree that the living room light is so ugly it's beautiful?
I think when you have a vision, you should just go for it.

  3. Haha, I'd say: It'ss so ugly it's *almost* beautiful, or "beautiful in a way" :-) But context is key here, and if you think it would look beautiful in your context, it probably will ;-)

  4. It's interesting how design styles change and evolve. Ten years ago, this chandelier would have been considered gaudy and garish. Now, it's gutsy and glorious!

  5. Well...it is very dramatic and lovely. If it fits in with the rest of the room I say go for it!

  6. I'm digging it. Especially if you can design the room around it. Since it sounds like you already have a vision in mind, I agree...go for it!

  7. Wow! That was a very beautiful chandelier. If you placed it in a room, the chandelier would look outstanding.

  11. What an inspiration piece! That calls for some gutsy choices to go with it, and I'm looking forward to those :) Definitely trust your gut. Only you know what you're going for. How are you, by the way?
