going glossy

Could you go glossy?
Patricia Lansing via elle decor

I would love lacquered walls in our new house: especially in a bedroom.
{The new plan is to buy in March so stay tuned.}
Don't these look dreamy and ethereal?  Oh, and how about a nursery?!  I'm sure any baby would love to watch how the light plays off the walls.

You don't have to go dark.  Look at this high gloss white library!

Sparkling kitchen, anyone?

This color is more my style!  These walls look so glamorous to me.

I am going to try this effect in a bedroom, dinning room, or home office.
How about you?

  2. I love how it looks, without a doubt. BUT - Actually doing it seems like an expensive thing, and on top of that I mostly would worry about how hard it would be to paint over when you're ready for a change.

  3. every single one of these is gorgeous! especially loving the dark green - it's due for a comeback, and the navy kitchen. Beautiful! Hope you go for it :)

  5. Hey Abby! I'm from A-town and have attended WOL since I was two! I remember you from waaay back in the day. My maiden name was Blury.
Anyway, I really enjoy following both of your blogs. Such great inspiration! Thank you for all you do.
I love the glossy walls in most of these pictures. I really like the kitchen!j I'm wondering, though, if having the paint like this in a bathroom would be a problem because of moisture? I already have trouble with my bathroom walls "streaking" in appearance because of the moisture. Would that affect appear worse because of the gloss? I'm just wondering...

  6. Hi Cassie-
I hope you check back for my response! ;-) Thank you so much for reading. What a wonderful surprise! I actually think a bathroom is one of the best places to do this effect, but I can't guarantee there won't be streaking. In general, I think he glossier the paint in a bathroom the better. I only use a semi-gloss or high gloss in a bathroom because of the moisture. Let me know what you decide!

  7. Oh, decisions, decisions. See, I was going to comment on one of your posts about decisiveness, but I didn't know if I should. Haha! I'm may be the most indecisive person you have met/will meet. Especially, when it comes to design. There is not a picture hanging in my home that was hung by myself! I put pictures where there were nails already in place. :) My house could really use an Abby overhaul! :) The paint colors are ones my husband chose, or that we used in our previous home. Eeek! I'm so bad at this! I know what I *don't* like. Just have a hard time deciding what I *do* like. ;) Oh, and of course, there is always the budget we have to deal with!

We are currently in the process of completely finishing our basement. It started earlier this year as concrete blocks and a big, open, dark space. Thanks to my handy hubby... we now have a walk-out basement, a laundry room, a storage room, an office, a large closet, and a huge "rec-type" room. The drywall is hung but that's about it. There are so many decisions yet to be made!!!

What color paint? What kind of flooring (it is currently concrete)? What kind of shelving/storage? So many thoughts and questions!

Wish you lived closer! What a pleasure to read your blog, though. You've given me lots of great inspiration!

  8. Cassie-
Why don't you email me at abbymanchesky@gmail.com and send me some basement pictures. Have you tried www.flor.com? That might be the perfect option for your basement.
